Weekend Viewing: Tiny Masters of Today

We first met sibs Ivan and Ada (a.k.a. Tiny Masters of Today) almost two years ago, as we were planning our first issue of Corduroy. We had heard about the band through a friend at school and then caught them in concert at a tiny bar in Brooklyn. Both Ivan and Ada were still pre-teens back then (which made it slightly uncomfortable to hear them play in a rowdy bar), but they had an unmistakable energy and confidence well beyond their years, and delivered a tightly-packed set that had everyone in the room cheering in amazement. We became instant fans and knew we had to include them in our premiere issue; their interview and photoshoot turned out to be one of the most popular reads. Now all grown up at 15 and 13 respectively, the two are already on their sophomore album. The disc is called “Skeletons” and it’s set for release this June. The video for their first single “Pop Chart” is a send-up of the teen-pop band mould that they’re trying so desperately to avoid. With their crunchy, distorted guitar riffs and jangly vocals, it’s safe to say Tiny Masters is not your average Disney fare. Check out the video below and check out the band on MySpace at www.myspace.com/tinymasters.
