Weekend Viewing – Of Montreal ft. Solange Knowles

Who would’ve thought that Beyonce’s little sister would grow up to be an indie rock fan? But whether it’s a marketed attempt to step out of her big sis’ shadows, or a genuine reflection of her evolving musical tastes, Solange Knowles has surprisingly become a welcome sight at the Glastonburys and SXSW’s of the world. Her latest foray into the indie music scene finds her collaborating with indie pop group, Of Montreal, for a track called “Sex Karma.” It’s off their upcoming album called “False Priests” (which also features a song with R&B funkstress Janelle Monae). In the meantime, check out Of Montreal and Solange’s performance of the “Sex Karma” from “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” below:

What a silly statement– just because Solange is Black, she can’t like indie rock? How narrow, and way to assume that just because of skin color and stupid labels placed on marketing demographics in the music industry, Solange may not have been a fan of (indie) rock before collaborating with Of Montreal and Dirty Projectors?

FYI, her father was a music industry exec, and I’m sure versed his kids in all types of music. Also, *surprise surprise* many of us Black kids out there listen to music other than hip-hop, R&B, etc.

    Kinda disappointed, Corduroy.
