Introducing: I Blame Coco

We first noticed Coco Sumner back in 2008 when she appeared in a Burberry ad alongside catwalk queens Lily Donaldson and Agyness Dyen. Since then, the daughter of Sting and Trudie Styler has assumed full-fledged fashion icon status, while plunging both her Doc Marten-adorned feet into the pop pool.

Under the moniker I Blame Coco, Sumner recently released her blistering first single “Caesar”, an aggressive electro anthem featuring an addictive hook by Swedish pop pixie Robyn. Her mischievous opening lines “I want to annoy. And I’m going to enjoy it” sound like a direct shot at her critics; mostly pessimists tired of watching offspring of the rich and famous rest on their parents’ laurels rather than on their own talent. Sumner is fully aware that her background will attract some wolves in search of blood, but she’s decided to let her music do the talking. Having signed a three album deal with Island Records, Coco Sumner isn’t going anywhere soon.

The recently released video for “Caesar” directed by UK duo Hope Audikana, features Coco and Robyn getting down at a post-apocalyptic dance party. It’s clear that fashion is a big part of Sumner’s aesthetic, and the 19 year-old’s punky enthusiasm is on full display here. Something tells us we’ll be hearing this track at more than one show at just-around-the-corner New York Fashion Week. Check out the video below. Also be sure to check out our interview with Coco’s actress sister Mickey in our upcoming issue.
