Behind the Scenes: Evian’s New Ad

July 8th, 2009 | Published in Uncategorized

Lately, we’ve been a little obsessed with the new commercials launched by Evian. The ads, part of the water company’s new “Live Young” campaign, features a group of energetic, active babies roller break-dancing to a remix of “Rapper’s Delight” by hip-hop producer Dan the Automator. Yes, read that sentence again (Or better yet, check out the clip below). The ads have become a huge YouTube sensation, with more than two million views since they were first launched a few weeks ago. They’ll also hit the air in the U.S., France, UK, Germany, Canada and Japan.

Putting the ads together was no easy feat, as you’ll see in the exclusive behind-the-scenes video below. 96 babies in all were filmed for the spot, developed by Award-winning director Michael Gracey (part of the creative circle behind Baz Lurhman’s “Romeo and Juliet” and “Moulin Rouge”). Evian says the ads are both a nod to our inner youth (playing to our nostalgia perhaps, for old-school hip-hop?) and also a symbol of the brand’s commitment to purity (Ie. the dancing babies). As for Dan the Automator’s new remix? Demand for the song is apparently so high that Evian is releasing the famed California producer’s version of “Rapper’s Delight” for download online. Details at the Evian “Live Young” website.
