Some of our favorite photographers are participating in a new exhibition opening at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) tomorrow night. The show, titled “Younger Than I’ll Be,” is curated by our friend Skye Parrott, who recently shot artist Aurel Schmidt for our next issue.
For the BAM exhibit, Parrott sought to capture the feeling of “being young in the big city,” asking photographers to contribute works that best reflected their experiences growing up. The collected photos touch on all the emotions of youth: the fleetingness of love, the dangers of urban life, and the joy of discovering New York City for the first time. Many of the photos are from the 80s and 90s, a time when New York was still filled with a sense of unfettered abandon, for all who lingered in its path.
Participating artists include David Armstrong, Cass Bird, Nan Goldin, Marcelo Gomes, Robert Longo and Peter Sutherland. The show runs until May 23rd. The opening reception is tomorrow night, from 6-8 pm inside the Natman Room at BAM, 30 Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn.
