Odin to Launch at Target

May 14th, 2012

We’ve seen a number of amazing designer collaborations with Target in recent years, but far too often, the shopping experience has been reserved solely for the ladies (think Rodarte and Jason Wu). But Target’s latest collaboration is aimed squarely and expertly at the guys.

New York menswear boutique Odin will debut an exclusive, limited-time only collection at Target this September. Featuring sweaters, henleys, button-downs, pants, shoes and accessories, the collection caters to both the sartorially savvy and the guy who’s worn the same pair of jeans his whole life. Expect to see a mix of refined and rugged, with a focus on menswear staples and good quality basics, plus a few more aggressively styled pieces scattered in as well.

And while the clothes will be sold in a nationwide department store (as opposed to the posh interiors of Odin’s three Manhattan outposts), store owners Eddy Chai and Paul Birardi promise the same masculine yet cosmopolitan style that they’ve been known for over the years, now with Target’s commitment to affordable pricing and quality. The Odin for Target collection is in stores and online at Target.com on September 9th.

Odin, Not Odom

February 8th, 2012

For those who thought the notion of unisex perfume was forever tainted following the release of Khloe and Lamar Odom’s “Unbreakable,” Odin Fragrances New York seeks to change your mind. Inspired by the depths of travel, Odin Fragrances creates modern unisex scents in the context of age-old fragrance traditions.

The latest addition to Odin’s fragrance collection is entitled “Tanoke.” Developed in collaboration with Parisian Drom perfumer Corinne Cachen, Tanoke is a warm wood-based fragrance which evokes the natural aromas of the lush California coast. This particular offering is just as suitable for the men as it is for the women by its coupling of woodsy top notes with a light finish. The core of Tanoke brings forth the balsamic resin of wet gaiacwood wrapped in smoky incense, while crisp black pepper, spicy ginger and bitter orange add an invigorating freshness.

It’s a perfect mix of strength and lightness – and perfect perhaps for Valentine’s Day? The fragrance joins the well-defined scents in the Odin Fragrances catalog that includes 01 Sunda, 02 Owari, 03 Century, 04 Petrana, and a favorite of our editors, 06 Amanu (yes, they skipped 05, though we’re not sure why…maybe because Chanel has it trademarked?)

Odin is also expanding its fragrance collection with the release of their home fragrance line of candles. Currently available in four scents, we’d love the candles just for their visual appeal; the slate-coloured wax candles are each held in a translucent black glass case with clean, minimalist lines. But their unique scents and the intimate amber light (it can burn for sixty hours) make them all the more appealing.

Tanoke retails for $125/100ml while the home fragrances are available for a slightly more affordable $65. Head on over to the Odin Fragrances website for more information or to locate your nearest stockist.

Weekend Viewing – Florsheim at New York Fashion Week

September 18th, 2010

Shoes and accessories label Florsheim celebrated the opening of a new Pop-Up Shop this week in New York, executed by Odin co-owners Paul Birardi and Eddy Chai. The opening of shop also marked the introduction of the new Florsheim Limited collection, a new category that bridges the Florsheim by Duckie Brown footwear collection and Florsheim’s core collections.

The new looks (and new shop) take the historic elements of the brand and present them in a more modern and fashion-forward interpretation. To mark the occasion, Florsheim created two light-hearted videos, demonstrating the unique range and mood of the new collections. Check out the animated videos for Florsheim Limited and Florsheim by Duckie Brown (featuring Duckie Brown designers Steven Cox and Daniel Silver) below. As for the pop-up shop, it’s open now at 109 Mercer Street in SoHo and features select styles from the footwear line, as well as hand-selected accessories including hats, scarves and socks.

Our Five Best Bets for Fashion’s Night Out

September 9th, 2010

With New York City’s Fashion’s Night Out just around the corner, deciding on a plan of attack may be just as daunting as picking out an outfit. With a myriad of  events (over 950!) going down all around town, we picked our five best bets for avoiding the crush of people while still experiencing the best that FNO has to offer. Good luck and good shopping!

Moscot @ The Moscot Gallery: Our favorite eyewear designers will welcome world-renowned recording artist and DJ Theophilus Monk to The Moscot Gallery (118 Orchard Street) where all Moscot originals will be available for 15% off. House Jams Wine will be providing free refreshments making this event the perfect starting point for your epic FNO journey.

Patty Smyth @ Bulgari: Though this may be one of the higher profile events, the opportunity to see an American rock legend play two sets (for free!) at the luxury goods retailer’s 5th Avenue outpost is simply a can’t-miss. Expect a crowd.

“Non Fashion People’s” Fashion Night Out @ Partner & Spade: The always avant-garde retail space is once again pushing the limits with its showcase of non-designer’s designs. A police officer, a toddler, a farmer, and Vena Cava designer Lisa Mayock’s father will all be featuring original pieces. This one’s for the sartorially adventurous.

Sonic Youth does FNO @ Sportmax: Rock renaissance couple Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth fame will be teaming up for this indie extravaganza at Maxmara’s affordable West Broadway atelier. Kim will be unveiling her new collection “Carte Blanche” while hubby Moore DJ’s.

Sweet Treat @ Odin: When the sun starts to rise and you think you’re all shopped out, head to Odin to re-fuel. Designers Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos will be serving up Brooklyn Brewery Brown Ale and Honey ice cream creates sepcifically for FNO. Yum!
