Levi’s is taking over Los Angeles as part of its latest “Workshop” series and its latest fashion collaboration. After the recent success of its Print Workshop in San Francisco and Photo Workshop in New York City, Levi’s opened up its Film Workshop yesterday at The Museum of Contemporary Art in L.A. The Workshop will live within the museum’s Art in the Streets,” exhibit, which is the first comprehensive U.S. museum survey of graffiti and street art. Levi’s will host a series of film screenings related to art, skate, music and food, and welcome guests for weekly seminars with some of the pioneers of the street-art movement in L.A.
Levi’s is also partnering with MOCA on a limited edition Trucker Jacket series, featuring original artwork by 10 exhibiting artists from Art in the Streets. The collection serves as a retrospective within the world of street art, as the jackets will be released in chronological order from when each artist began in the field. Each jacket retails for $250 and all proceeds will benefit MOCA and its community programs. There are only 50 of each jacket being produced. Check out the full list of participating artists along with the release date for their jackets after the jump. And head over to the Geffen Contemporary at the L.A. MOCA to check out the jackets and Levi’s film workshop in person. Read the rest of this entry »
After two successful collaborations, Levi’s is teaming up with Opening Ceremony once again on a capsule collection, this time focused on everything “Chambray.” The Levi’s Chambray by Opening Ceremony collection includes eight pieces—four silhouettes for men and four for women—in a colorful array of premium, Japanese chambray and lightweight indigo denim.
Levi’s, which has been building its iconic workwear shirts out of sturdy cotton chambray for over a century, reinterpreted their “blue color” roots by creating a collection that uses multiple colors of light-weight and buttery-soft premium Japanese chambray in addition to the traditional blue chambray. The looks fuse Levi’s iconic Americana style with Opening Ceremony’s youthful spirit and modern fits. It’s perfect for spring and versatile enough to carry over into summer and fall. Plus, we love that it’s casual enough to wear on weekends but substantial enough to dress up and wear out.
The collection hits stores and online at openingceremony.us this month (launching during New York fashion week) but we’ve got a sneak peek at some of the Terry Richardson-shot images from the new collection campaign below:
After a successful West Coast run in San Francisco, Levi’s is launching the second of its “Levi’s Photo Workshops” this week in New York. For ten weeks, the Workshop will host an array of arts and culture programming, including exhibition openings, parties, and public lectures. Events will be hosted by notable New York art pioneers who have partnered with Levi’s to create original work that will be showcased in the space. The Workshop will also feature a professional-grade studio and vintage camera rental service, in addition to a retail store, ensuring that both the photo and photographer come out in style.
The project is part of Levi’s continuing “Go Forth” campaign, which seeks to promote the message of community involvement and introduce the spirit of craftsmanship and workwear to everyday life.
The Workshop runs from October 8th to December 18th at 18 Wooster Street (between Canal & Grand) in SoHo. Find out more information on the Levi’s website, and check out a trailer for the project below:
Levi’s is helping women to rid their closets of ill-fitting jeans, while simultaneously helping a good cause, with their first-annual “What What Fits” event tomorrow at Bryant Park. Bring an item of clothing that no longer fits (or a piece of unwanted home décor) to donate to Goodwill, and get a free pair of custom-fit “Curve ID” jeans from Levi’s. The event takes place tomorrow from 10am – 4pm at the Fountain Terrace at Bryant Park, but get there early: supplies are limited and the jeans are being given out on a first-come, first-serve basis. As a bonus, Grammy nominated-songtress Janelle Monae will perform tracks from her new CD, and there will be celebrity stylists and Levi’s reps on-hand to help you perfect your look. Not a bad way to spend your lunch hour or Friday afternoon if you ask us.. Click HERE for all the details.
Two renowned American clothing brands have teamed up to re-make an iconic American clothing staple. Levi’s and Brooks Brothers are launching a new collection of jeanswear for men, saddled with the long but appropriate name, “Levi’s Jeans, Made in the USA for Brooks Brothers.” The collection is the latest in an ongoing series of special collaborations for both brands and fits perfectly into the current sartorial obsession with “heritage” items and all things Americana.
The new line will consist of the original and iconic 501 jean, the 505 jean (the zip-fly “sibling” of the 501 jean) and the more modern and streamlined 514 “Slim Straight” jean. In keeping with the “Made in America” theme, all the jeans will be crafted in a factory in Los Angeles. The jeans will retail for $148 a pair and will be available at Brooks Brothers stores nationwide and online at www.brooksbrothers.com beginning this week.
