Fashion’s Night Out have hit us with an ostensibly unfashionable “PSA” featuring some of the world’s top models. But maybe that’s the point. Unlike the rest of New York Fashion Week — which panders to the industry’s elite — FNO is for the casual fashionista; at least that’s what a series of decidedly un-glam, grinning supermodels will have us think. The above trailer features 14 of the industry’s top models directed by world-renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh, in an effort to drum up hype and support for the now annual shopping event.
See a sampling of the night’s festivities, including in-store appearances from the Olsens, Alexander Wang and Janelle Monae, after the jump…
With her mix of Afro-funk, soul, hip-hop, dance and rock, Atlanta-based singer Janelle Monae is singlehandedly making music interesting again. Her music defies genres and, like art, encourages its audience to experience it in their own unique ways. Whether she’s churning out big beats with Big Boi or powering up with indie band (and unexpected collaborators) Of Montreal, Monae’s debut album, “The ArchAndroid,” is conceptual, experimental and highly stylized. And yet, it’s hardly pretentious. In fact, the songs grab you with their intensity, surprise you with their sound and keep you listening with their undeniable originality. Her first single, “Tightrope,” featured Big Boi, but we love the new remix featuring B.o.B. and Lupe Fiasco. Check out the “Tightrope (Wondamix)” below:
