Behind the Scenes: Brandon Boyd
If you’re like us, your high school soundtrack includes more than a few songs by Incubus. So you can imagine our excitement when we ran into Incubus lead singer Brandon Boyd last month at a restaurant in L.A. We chatted for a little bit by the bar and then exchanged numbers. Two days later, we were at Boyd’s massive beach-front pad in Venice, taking in the view from his private roof-deck and checking out his home recording studio. At 33, Boyd’s settled in comfortably between writing and recording with the band (he told us they’ve still got “the itch” for music even after all these years) and working on his other passion: art. Boyd has published two art books full of sketches, paintings, poems, and musings. He had a solo exhibition last fall in L.A. and is already looking ahead to his next show. In fact, a day after we shot Boyd at home, we ran into him again at a gallery opening in Santa Monica…

Meantime, Incubus is touring this summer in support of its latest album — a greatest hits and rarities two-disc set titled “Moments and Monuments.” Full album details and tour dates at enjoyincubus.com. And watch for more with Brandon Boyd in Issue 6 of Corduroy, due out in late summer.
