Garance Doré Shoots Club Monaco Campaign

May 6th, 2010

Club Monaco is hopping on the street-style and blogger bandwagon, by inviting Corduroy-fave Garance Doré
to shoot their fall campaign and lookbook. Doré and a small team of stylists took to streets of New York on a chilly day in March, to photograph Club Monaco’s elegant and preppy new collection.

While we were initially skeptical about the collaboration (how would Doré, who is usually known for her photos and illustrations of Parisian high fashion, translate her work to a chain store in North America?) we soon saw it as a perfect — and logical — marriage of clean aesthetics and understated, carefree style. Doré’s eye for an interesting photo and her warm approach to her subjects help elevate Club Monaco’s new collection by giving it a light and whimsical makeover. And the company’s decision to use Doré and shoot the campaign outside in the streets proves they’re in touch with their modern, fashion-savvy audience. Check out a short video documenting the shoot below:

Garance Doré + Scott Schuman Seminar

February 15th, 2010

Fashion bloggers-turned-super couple Scott Schuman and Garance Doré are in town this week for New York Fashion Week but they’re not just here to cover the shows and streeters. The two are teaming up for a joint seminar this Wednesday focused on social media in fashion.

Schuman, a veteran of sales and marketing for high fashion designers, is now better known as The Sartorialist, and runs a popular fashion blog. Doré, meantime, is an illustrator and photographer who’s also gained a loyal readership for her Paris-based blog. The couple will share their insights into how social media will change the fashion industry — a topic that might not even have been relevant as little as five years ago! The seminar takes place at Tribeca Skyline Studios Wednesday night from 7-8 pm, followed by a one hour cocktail reception. Space is limited and tickets may be purchased online HERE. Garance Doré’s GAP T-Shirts Unveiled

August 31st, 2009

Last week we told you about Garance Doré’s upcoming pop-up shop in London for GAP. Our favorite photographer/blogger will be curating an exhibition of her sketches and photographs and selling personally-designed, limited edition T-shirts created just for the occasion. Today, we have a first look at Doré’s tees, which feature her trademark line sketches in flirty, feminine designs. The tees are sure to sell out fast — and not only because of Doré’s rising popularity. Only 69 shirts in each style will be manufactured (the number referencing GAP’s 1969 year of launch and the subsequent — and now trademark — 1969 Gap brand jean) so lucky Londoners will likely be the only ones getting their hands on one of Doré’s new designs. Then again, there’s always eBay…

Read what Doré has to say about her GAP collaboration and check out all of the T-shirt designs by heading over to her latest blog.

Garance Doré and GAP Pop-Up Shop

August 25th, 2009

Corduroy’s favorite fashion illustrator/blogger/ photographer Garance Doré is teaming up with GAP to curate an exhibition of her own work next month at the clothing company’s new London pop-up shop on Carnaby Street. The concept store will feature Doré’s sketches and photographs of Paris street style, as well as limited edition T-shirts created by Doré especially for the occasion. No word yet on whether she will make an appearance at the event…

The pop-up celebrates GAP’s 40th anniversary, and in recognition of the company’s 1969 year of birth (the number printed on the back of all GAP jeans), the store opens on September 10th for 19 days and 69 hours only. Visit www.garancedore.fr to see more of Doré’s work and click HERE to pick up Issue 5 of Corduroy featuring Garance Doré.

The Sartorialist in Toronto

July 20th, 2009

Start digging through your closets for your most photo-worthy outfits… Fashion blogger and editor Scott Schuman, better known as The Sartorialist, is heading up north this week for an appearance at department store Holt Renfrew. As part of their new tribute series on fashion bloggers, the store has made-over its street-level window displays in honor of Schuman, Sea of Shoes blogger Jane Aldridge, Jak and Jill’s Tommy Ton (who photographed us for a feature in the Toronto Star last year); Filipino-blogger and Marc Jacobs muse Bryan Boy, and Corduroy-fave Garance Dore, who’s profiled in the latest issue of our magazine.

Schuman will make an in-store appearance this Wednesday, from 12:30-2 pm, to celebrate his window display and an in-store exhibition of his photography. Details at holtrenfrew.com. No word on whether or not he’s bringing along his camera to capture some of Toronto’s street style scene.. We’d tell you to dress to impress just in case, but you probably already knew that…
