As the lead singer — and namesake — of Florence & The Machine, British-born Florence Welch is like a modern-day Kate Bush mixed with a bit of Debbie Harry, Dolores O’Riordan and hints of Prince. Her songs are equally diverse; a rapturous cacophony of big beats, howling vocals and in-your-face attitude that’s undeniably original. The band’s debut album, “Lungs,” was released last month in the UK and peaked at number two (just behind Michael Jackson) on the charts.
