If we were feeling slightly nervous and intimidated about meeting Rufus Sewell early last Wednesday afternoon, our fears were immediately put to rest the moment he opened the door. “Hi guys, come on in!” bellowed a surprisingly chipper Sewell. “Coffee or tea?” We declined a drink at first, but soon nodded for a coffee at the friendly prodding of the actor. “I can make a fresh cup for you,” he said. “It’s not a problem at all.”
And so went the photoshoot and subsequent interview: a chatty and funny(!) Sewell entertaining us with stories about shooting in a prostitution den in Thailand and about how he ended up with no money and sleeping in his car in London a few years back (For the record, the hookers and the sleeping in the car bit are not related. They were two separate stories).

After we shot a couple rolls of film, Sewell played gracious host, taking us on a tour of his multi-level Hollywood Hills home, complete with secret nooks, fresh herb garden and a stunning view of the Los Angeles skyline. He was self-deprecating and humble, quick to point out that this was a rental, and just as quick to share his plans to move his acting career in a new direction. Best known for his villainous roles in A Knight’s Tale, The Mask of Zorro and The Illusionist, Sewell told us he’s sick of playing the “bad guy” and ready to hold out for a comedic or more light-hearted role — even if it means turning down some great scripts. Though he appreciates his past roles — and is certainly grateful that people have enjoyed his portrayal of the villains — Sewell is ready to show off the other sides of his personality and capabilities. From the short time we spent with him, we know there’s plenty about Rufus Sewell that audiences have yet to see. Prepare to be surprised.

One of the more talented actors of his generation whose talent has been sadly underused and under appreciated. His fans know how amazingly talented this man truly is. And did I mention beautiful too!
