We’ve fallen in love with the fall/winter looks from new menswear label Company of We. The New York-based line, helmed by former writer Jayzel Samonte and Christopher Crawford (of Christopher Deane and Sophia Eugene), is chock full of sartorial goodies, like cozy blazers, slim-fitting slacks and tailored jackets. And with prices topping out at $400 (for its beautiful wool peacoat and this toggle coat that we’re eyeing), it’s also a relatively affordable line for stylish men and stylish men-in-training alike.
This season, Company of We introduced its take on the ubiquitous blazer, a piece they’ve dubbed the “Shanahan blazer.” We asked the designers why they thought this would be a “new classic” for our closets and here’s what they had to say: We love the Shanahan blazer because it feels a little like Sherlock Homes goes on Safari. I think the great thing that’s happening in men’s fashion these days is the resurgence of putting oneself together again. Even if your look is disheveled, there seems to be more and more of an effort put into getting dressed. Wool tweed has so much texture and character that for some time it was confined to the blazers and skirt sets of Chanel. This season, wool tweed has gotten a fresh update with a youthful twist that brings a sophisticated and surprisingly modern aesthetic to it. Our wool tweed blazer is great with a pair of jeans or with a button down as a casual yet refined work look.
What do you think? Is the Shanahan blazer a fresh and unique take on a wardrobe staple? Or is it a little too literal in its safari-inspired motif? Post your comments below…
