It’s not even fall yet but already our inbox has been filled with lookbooks and promos for spring/summer 2011. While we have yet to go through all of the materials, we couldn’t help but pause at some of Rachel Comey’s choices for her new men’s footwear collection. For spring, Comey has re-worked classic silhouettes into trimmer, more modern fits, while simultaneously re-introducing a vintage-inspired tassel style…sometimes on a traditional moccasin. While we love the idea of men being more adventurous with their footwear, we’re not entirely convinced that tassels are the way to go. Sure, everyone from Thom Browne to Sperry have added tassels to their collections, but does that mean they’re back in style? Comey for one, is hoping that fashion-forward men will jump (back) on board the trend, or embrace it for the first time. And we’re willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, as her mens line (especially footwear) has taken off in the past year, almost matching her eponymous womenswear line in sales and press!
What do you think? Are tassels making a comeback? How would YOU wear the trend? Check out www.rachelcomeymens.com for more information.
