New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer ’10: Rachel Comey

New York Fashion Week has officially kicked off, with designers unveiling their new collections for spring/summer 2010. This year, Corduroy has teamed up with our friends at FLIP to bring you exclusive videos straight from the runway, taken with our FLIP Ultra HD Camcorder. Keep checking our blog throughout the week to see all the videos, and to get all the details on the shows, parties and presentations we’re attending. Kicking it all off today: Rachel Comey.

We first introduced you to Rachel Comey in Issue 2 of Corduroy and we’ve been watching her take off ever since, with each season’s collection growing more cohesive and detailed. In keeping with previous years, Comey chose once again to show away from the tents at Bryant Park, opting instead of a quaint (yet crowded) open-air rooftop in Chelsea. Comey’s invite promised a show “rain or shine,” but with everyone decked out in their fashion week finest and nary an umbrella in sight, it was safe to assume the audience let out a collective sigh of relief when the clouds parted just before the 11am show.

The mood for Comey’s spring/summer collection was set immediately as you sat down, with indie-pop songstress St. Vincent providing the live soundtrack as the models floated down the runway in floral crepe du chine blouses, park-perfect rayon dresses and sailor-inspired suiting. Comey’s signature feminine flourishes were alive in little details like macramé tees and pastel-colored pleated “skorts,” while other pieces were off-set by menswear and workwear detailing, that brought to mind a girl swimming in her boyfriend’s (beautifully curated) closet. The crowd seemed to perk up at many of the dressier looks, while our eyes couldn’t stop staring at Comey’s increasingly beautiful leather pumps and bowline clogs (Her new line of shoes for men are equally inspired). Check out all the looks from Rachel Comey’s S/S 2010 runway show below:
