We’ve known Jay Carroll for a couple years now, ever since we first met him at a Rogues Gallery event here in New York. Jay quickly turned us on to Rogues’ nautical-inspired chunky sweaters, jackets, graphics tees and rugged trousers that now all occupy a permanent place in our closets. He was also a big supporter of Corduroy and give us a lot of encouragement and some great ideas. Now, after five years as brand director for Rogues, Jay has decided it’s time to move on. He’s headed West to set-up shop on a top secret new project, though we’re hoping it has something to do with One Trip Pass, his pop-up shop collaboration with Ned Martel, documenting selections from their road trip through the Great American West. In the meantime, Jay’s talking to corduroymag.com as the latest person to participate in our exclusive web series about “things that never go out of style.” Here’s his top ten list:
1. Levi’s 501 jeans
2. Gram Parsons records
3. Sailors bracelets (as shown on Jay’s hand)

4. Homemade tattoos

5. Vintage Bausch and Lomb
6. Santa Maria novella
7. Girls in sun-dresses
8. Bean boots

9. Westfalia VW camper vans and old Toyota pick-ups

10. Fruit smoothies with bee pollen
