Record Store Day

Here’s an occasion you’ll want to mark: tomorrow is National Record Store Day, a day to recognize and celebrate the nation’s finest independent music retailers. Dozens of artists and stores from across the country are marking the day by offering limited edition releases (many on 7′ vinyl) and one time only in-store performances. We’re amped to check out Talib Kweli and DJ Premier at Fat Beats here in New York, while Chris Cornell will be in Minneapolis, Erykah Badu is in Dallas, and The Bird and the Bee will play L.A. Check out the full list of shows HERE and make sure to support the musicians by buying their albums legally — and preferably — from a local music vendor. We’ve met some of the most knowledgeable people about music at Fat Beats, and we could spend hours there listening to them tell stories about all the famous names that have come through the store and the neighborhood. With all the recent news about Virgin shuttering their stores and Circuit City going out of business, it’s nice to know the little guys are still around, and we want to make sure they stick around for years to come.
