Fred Segal Man x Robert Geller Collection

March 21st, 2012

Los Angeles-based Fred Segal Man is teaming up with menswear designer Robert Geller to present a small limited-edition capsule collection. The “Fred Segal Man x Robert Geller” collection consists of 4 styles – garment-dyed Japanese denim rider jacket, fade-dye hooded sweatshirt, sleeveless “Oceanside” reversible t-shirt and cropped neon Japanese denim – and is meant to reflect the laid-back cool of California while retaining the moodiness that Robert Geller is known for. It’s a great entry point, in our opinion, for both the Fred Segal customer to pick up some strong, masculine, well-made pieces, while also introducing Geller’s fans to the Fred Segal experience.

Fred Segal has been stocking Geller’s line for years and the designer says it only made sense to take their partnership to the next level. Geller is hoping this capsule collection will spinoff into larger projects in the future.

The Fred Segal Man x Robert Geller collection will be available at Fred Segal Man and online starting March 30th. Prices start at $180 for the sleeveless t-shirt to $650 for the Japanese denim rider jacket. See more pics below.

Corduroy Loves: Obakki x bkr Water Bottle

March 2nd, 2012

Our friends Obakki have always believed that fashion should have a heart, and they’ve demonstrated this commitment to caring with their charitable foundation as well as special projects that connect fans and customers of the Canadian brand with worthy causes both in the country and around the world.

This spring, Obakki has partnered with bkr (pronounced ‘beaker’) – a company that shares the belief that beauty can affect change – to develop a custom, 500ml reusable glass water bottle, with a sleek silicone sleeve. Launched during their fall/winter 2012 presentation at New York Fashion Week last month, the bottle is streamlined with a minimalist design, while being lightweight and FDA approved to meet standards for safe water drinking.

The best part? 100% of the proceeds of each water bottle purchase will be used by the Obakki Foundation to provide education and clean water for communities in Africa. For every 500 water bottles sold, 1 water well can be drilled. Fashion with a purpose, the collaboration water bottle is the perfect addition to a gym tote, office desk or any outdoor adventure.

The Obakki x bkr water bottle is available for only $40 and can be purchased on the Obakki Foundation online store, where you’ll also be able to read up on the work the foundation does.

Speaking of Obakki, check out this beautiful video, which chronicles the inspiration behind the label’s fall/winter 2012 collection:

D.I.Y. (Luxury) Shoes With MJÖLK

February 27th, 2012

What’s better than a pair of handsome, well-made, well-designed shoes? Having the chance to customize them yourself! New York-based menswear line MJÖLK is now adding custom shoes to their roster, opening up their first-ever “workroom” in their online shop.

Available in four different styles (oxford, boot, loafer, sandal), every pair sports a stacked wooden heel, leather sole, and sturdy, old-world cobbling techniques. The rest is up to you: from the type of leather used to the colour, style, detailing, piping, sole, laces and even the height of the heel, everything can be altered, mixed, and matched in any combination. There is even an assistant (read: a real person) that will collect your order and answer any questions have you have or specifications you may require.

While we haven’t designed a custom pair of shoes before, we can definitely see ourselves moving in this direction. With MJÖLK’s classic designs and well-known craftsmanship, it’s the next generation of shoe shopping and one that’s set on ensuring longevity, comfort, and impeccable style.

Prices for the custom shoes start at $510 USD. Ready to get started? Visit the MJÖLK workroom to explore all the options.

Odin, Not Odom

February 8th, 2012

For those who thought the notion of unisex perfume was forever tainted following the release of Khloe and Lamar Odom’s “Unbreakable,” Odin Fragrances New York seeks to change your mind. Inspired by the depths of travel, Odin Fragrances creates modern unisex scents in the context of age-old fragrance traditions.

The latest addition to Odin’s fragrance collection is entitled “Tanoke.” Developed in collaboration with Parisian Drom perfumer Corinne Cachen, Tanoke is a warm wood-based fragrance which evokes the natural aromas of the lush California coast. This particular offering is just as suitable for the men as it is for the women by its coupling of woodsy top notes with a light finish. The core of Tanoke brings forth the balsamic resin of wet gaiacwood wrapped in smoky incense, while crisp black pepper, spicy ginger and bitter orange add an invigorating freshness.

It’s a perfect mix of strength and lightness – and perfect perhaps for Valentine’s Day? The fragrance joins the well-defined scents in the Odin Fragrances catalog that includes 01 Sunda, 02 Owari, 03 Century, 04 Petrana, and a favorite of our editors, 06 Amanu (yes, they skipped 05, though we’re not sure why…maybe because Chanel has it trademarked?)

Odin is also expanding its fragrance collection with the release of their home fragrance line of candles. Currently available in four scents, we’d love the candles just for their visual appeal; the slate-coloured wax candles are each held in a translucent black glass case with clean, minimalist lines. But their unique scents and the intimate amber light (it can burn for sixty hours) make them all the more appealing.

Tanoke retails for $125/100ml while the home fragrances are available for a slightly more affordable $65. Head on over to the Odin Fragrances website for more information or to locate your nearest stockist.
