Following the announcement last month that Jean Paul Gaultier was appointed the role of Creative Director of Diet Coke, we now have a first look at images of the limited-edition bottles designed by Gaultier himself as well as a sneak peek of the ad campaign.
The bottle collection, themed “Night & Day,” pays homage to Gaultier’s infamous designs. The “Night” bottle has a sexy Rock Chick edge with a corset style reminiscent of the designer’s catwalk shows and iconic cone bra design. And is it just us or does the lace and fishnet design really highlight the female-like silhouette of the iconic bottle shape?

The “Day” design, meantime, is inspired by Gaultier’s signature Breton stripes and captures a nautical feel and attitude. To complete the ensemble, the shiny red bottle cap acts as a chic beret, and a star tattoo pays homage to Gaultier’s sailor muse.
Both bottles will be available individually or via a chic collector’s box. The exclusive collector’s set includes both bottle designs and a limited-edition Diet Coke glass featuring the iconic Jean Paul Gaultier blue and white stripes. The bottles are available in 9 European countries from select retailers. A third bottle is set to be released this summer.
As for the commercials, you can check out the Stephane Sednaoui-directed campaign clip and a behind-the-scenes look at the campaign after the jump…

As part of their latest creative endeavor, the folks over at Topman have invited some of the most innovative design talent from around the world to reinterpret the classic denim jacket, with their aptly titled, “Denim Jacket Project.” A wardrobe staple among the sartorially-inclined, the denim jacket has been one of our essential pieces since time-immemorial and we really like that we have a new range of options to choose from courtesy of Topman.
The Denim Jacket Project features designs from six designers: Oliver Spencer, Lou Dalton, Katy Eary, Shaun Samson, Mark McNairy (pictured at left) as well as TOPMAN’s own in-house design team. The designers turn a seemingly simple classic into a series of statement pieces by reincarnating the garment in everything from polka dots to mesh overlay and influences as varied as old school Americana and rugged European chic. The jackets are now available online and at select Topman stores worldwide. See a few more preview pics below:

When we attended Lauren Moffatt’s fall/winer 2012 presentation in February, we weren’t too sure what to expect. With a fine art degree, a former graphic design job and a love of art and modern design (not to mention a sailboat docked on New York’s Hudson River that she once converted into a makeshift studio to sew pieces for her first two collections), Moffatt’s inspirations certainly run the gamut of style and substance. We arrived with eager anticipation, anxious to see what the Philadelphia-born designer would do with her latest collection. And we weren’t disappointed.

Moffatt’s Fall 2012 collection was inspired by the ‘innocent and classically undone style of a schoolgirl.” Think button ups with Peter Pan collars, paired with preppy skirts and collegiate, retro-inspired prints in muted earthy tones and quiet bursts of color. We left the presentation knowing that Moffatt’s pieces would be must-haves on our fall shopping lists! And we knew we had to include her in our recurring online series about “Things That Never Go Out of Style.”
We named our magazine Corduroy based on the idea that a corduroy jacket never goes out of style. It’s something you can wear season after season, year after year. With that in mind, we wanted to extend this idea to some of our favorite artists and designers, to see what was on their list of classic, timeless items. Moffatt’s list is as eclectic as her designs.
Here is what she chose for her “Top Ten” list of “Things That Never Go Out of Style”…

Just released from French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent is the show loafer. Stefano Pilati reinterprets the classic loafer silhouette with the introduction of a rubber upper, commonly utilized in rain footwear. Available in both black and cobalt blue, the shoe cleverly integrates elements of the classic loafer aesthetic with an embossed YSL monogram at the tongue, and a mock stitch effect at the welt and toe. We really like how this shoe wholeheartedly promotes the notion of quirkiness, the perfect way to update an otherwise serious suit.
Pilati’s unique vision for YSL, epitomized in the loafers, sadly came to an end during the most recent Paris fashion week as the designer showed his final womenswear collection for the brand. Pilati leaves behind a rather controversial seven-year legacy, with the house’s namesake stating that “some of what he does is good, some of it is not so good” prior to his death in 2008.
We’re quite anxious to see how Hedi Slimane plans to fill the designer’s shoes. Only time will tell, but if Slimane’s iconic work at Dior Homme serves as any indication, we’re certainly in for an interesting next few seasons at YSL. For now, why not reminisce with some sure to be collectable footwear from the designer’s final spring offering? The YSL show loafer is now available in both colorways at select retailers, including SSENSE for $300 CAD.

Is this the perfect shoe for spring? Just in time for the new season, the folks over at Dr. Martens have teamed up with Stussy Deluxe to release the Hambleton II, a follow-up to the original Hambleton collaboration released earlier last year. The partnership is a perfect pairing as both brands have an independent and distinct heritage rooted in street culture.
We really like the social contrast of these two specific brands collaborating. Stussy beginning on the surf scene in 1980s California, and Dr. Martens’ appropriation from work wear into the punk and new wave music scenes around the same time.
This juxtaposition is exemplified in the actual shoe. Available in navy, grey, and khaki colorways, the Hambleton II features an all-suede upper, leather laces, and the Dr. Martens trademark woven loop at the heel. All the elements work together to create this Wallabee with an edge. We really like the reworked moccasin silhouette for this coming Spring; we feel like we’re dressed while remaining casual. The Hambleton II is available at select Dr. Martens retailers and Stussy chapter stores worldwide now.
