The Selby Is In Your Place

We’ve blogged about our fondness for Todd Selby’s eponymous “open house” website before and now that our good friends at Abrams have sent us an advance copy of his book, we think we like him — and his project — even more.

“The Selby Is in Your Place” is a beautiful hardcover book inspired by Todd Selby’s portraits of creative people and their homes. The book — compiled by Selby — is as much a photography tome as it is a scrapbook, offering a sometimes casual, but always intimate glimpse into the lives and inspirations of today’s foremost authors, musicians, artists and designers. Selby has said that one’s “personal style is always reflected in their private spaces,” and the book features the eclectic quarters of people like Simon Doonan, Jonathan Adler, Terence Koh, Lou Douillon and Olivier Zahm. Each profile is accompanied by photos of various rooms in the subject’s home, as well as Selby’s watercolor portraits of the subjects and an illustrated questionnaire, which Selby asks each sitter to fill out. Many of the people and spaces appearing in the book were selected exclusively for this project, and have not been profiled on the website. The result is a visual and colorful anthology, that allows fans of The Selby (and newcomers alike) to peek into the unique spaces and inspirational interiors of people that inspire us.

“The Selby Is In Your Place” is 256 pages. The book will be released later this spring by Abrams Publishing. You can find out more about the book at theselby.com and pre-order a copy on Amazon.com.
